Orange City University Blanks Louisville(CO) Monarch in a Two Quarter Kickoff Classic
DELTONA — Tazz Figueroa tossed three first quarter touchdowns that covered 26, 44, and 69 yards to lead the Orange City University Titans to a 34-0 victory in just two quarters of play for the varsity starters.
The Titans got the scoring started when Figueroa connected with Iowa State commit Noble Thomas for a 26 touchdown with 9:02 left in the first quarter.
Figueroa connected with Demari Taylor on a screen passes that went for a 39 yard touchdown and gave the Titans a 14-0 lead. The pair also connected on another screen pass that covered 64 yards and put University ahead 21-0 with 3:02 left in the first quarter.
The Titans went to the ground game in the second quarter. Big 5-foot-10, 233-pound running back Rubens Joseph scored on a 9-yard rushing touchdown at the 8:32 mark made the score 28-0 and Cam Jackson’s 15-yard touchdown run with 5:48 left before halftime put University ahead 34-0.
Louisville(CO) Monarch is located about 1,875 from Volusia County and the Coyotes never could get in rhythm on either side of the ball. Their offensive line also had a tough time dealing with the Titans’ defensive front.
During the second half, both teams played backups, junior varsity players, and the second half featured a running clock.
Next week, University opens the season at Deltona and Louisville(CO) Monarch hosts Lakewood(CO) Green Mountain.
